From a dramatic smoky eye to white eyeliner (yes, really), here are the hottest bridal makeup looks we have seen this year. These looks have been strutting on the catwalk of New York Bridal Fashion Week and around town on our Southern California brides we have the honor of working with.
We have noticed this year, more and more brides are asking for a smokey eye. The rise of this dramatic look can be tied to or blamed on the amazing celebrity weddings of fashionistas like Kim Kardashian. Kim, along with other celebrities like Eva Mendes or Jessica Alba look flawless and amazing when they use the smoky eye on the red carpet, so it’s not surprising when our brides want that look. Celebrities have been our biggest inspiration.
This is another wedding makeup trend that has been going strong for a while now. The great thing about cat-eye liner is that while it’s so popular now, it is also a retro look, so it reads classic in your photos and works with almost any wedding gown. Also, the fabulous cat-eyes were a big hit in this years spring 2014 runways, so you’ll be right on target if you go this route.
Bold Berry Lip
If you have opened a magazine or pulled up a fashion blog this year you have seen the boldest matte lip colors in rich berry tones of purple, orange and red. Wearing a bold lip on your wedding day doesn’t have to be something to shy away from. Especially if you are getting married in a colder climate or having a fall/winter wedding. We are obsessed with our brides who can pull this look off, if you do a look like this in your everyday wear, why not your wedding. It’s an easy way to make a statement that can be classic and timeless if done properly. Keep the eyes rather simple and neutral. We suggest you do a natural eye, simple liner and natural lashes, to let your lips be the spotlight. What is bold for some is tame for others, so a trial is the perfect time to try on these bold shades.
The Flushed Cheek
They don’t call it a blushing bride for nothing! Blush has made a huge comeback in the wedding world. Blush is very important to attaining that big day glow, this year is all about subtle, natural colors. Nothing says bride like a flushed glowing cheek. To get that “just came in from skiing down a mountain look” choose peach and/or pink blush tones.
Do not be intimidated by white eyeliner! This is one of our favorite tools, when applied to inner lash lines, it makes the eye appear bigger by extending its white color. The main plus is that it helps our brides (who may have not had as much beauty sleep as planned) look refreshed!
In addition, it can make the look dramatic and very noticeable and it can help reshape your lash line, if you learn how to apply it correctly.
Our biggest tip for a stress-free wedding day when it comes to your bridal makeup…
Have a trial! Meet with your stylist of choice and just try a few different looks. You might be surprised by what a subtle change can do for you. It’s good to wake up confident on your wedding day knowing that at least your makeup and hair will look great even if the weather does not cooperate.
