As if losing Joan Rivers and Robin Williams wasn’t enough, we also had to sadly say goodbye to the iconic fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. At the young age of 82, Oscar finally lost his decade-long battle with cancer and left us to dance among the stars above. On a Monday, October 20th 2014, marked the day for mourning as the vast fashion world poured out their accolades to the late Oscar through all social media platforms, commemorating his hard work and dedication in designing their perfect look.
Among all of the tears and sadness, Oscar did leave us with one fantastic parting gift—his Bridal 2015 Collection! After his anything but disappointing performance at Bridal Fashion Week, it is our duty as the San Diego bridal community to celebrate his unfortunate passing and honor him by wearing one of his 2015 wedding creations down the aisle this year. He brought us a collection full of sophistication and personality so the least we could do is to show his dresses a good time with an elegant bridal hairstyle and classy bridal makeup.
One of my favorite aspects of his most recent Fall 2015 wedding collection is all of the lace-inspired detail. Whether it is featured on the neckline or embroidered on the body of the dress, I feel like it provides the perfect collusion of delicacy and elegance. If you check out his new collection, Look 27 is an ivory ball gown with silk threadwork embroidery that resembles a lace overlay leading up the chest and reaching the bottom of your neck. That element is ideal for creating an elongated, classy wedding style.
I personally favor sweetheart necklines over anything else because I believe they accentuate our “womanly assets” and add a girly, feminine touch. Pair that with a trumpet style gown and you’ve just created my dream dress. Well, I guess Oscar beat you to it because his Look 15 is an ivory Duchess satin trumpet gown with a sweetheart neckline! Both of these style choices together perfectly highlight long legs and a womanly neckline. All you would need is the perfect touch of bridal makeup.
Off the shoulder wedding gowns can fit into a handful of styles. They can be seen as more sophisticated with a straight across neckline and simple jewelry or they can add a sultry touch as if your dress is slightly hanging off your shoulders. Oscar de la Renta was obviously the man of my (I mean our…) dreams because he presented both to us in his 2015 Fall Collection. Look 23 feels modern and simple, more representing the first style choice I mentioned. Look 22 is more sweet and sexy with the off the shoulder fabric being a lace pattern (again bringing back that lace detail that I love!), which goes hand-in-hand with the second style choice. A beautiful dress a wedding updo would love.
Lastly, Oscar wanted no woman (or in this case, girl) to feel left out so he even included a few beautifully designed flower girl dresses! My favorite is Look 19—a white tulle flower girl dress with pearl painted polka dots…something my 5 year old princess self would have totally wanted to have in my closet. Check our our flower girl blog for wedding hair and makeup to match this dress. Think something along the lines of a mini version of a natural bridal hair and makeup look.
Here’s to celebrating Oscar’s life and honoring his death by keeping his name in the fashion world (and San Diego weddings) alive. Now, go buy Oscar de la Renta wedding dresses and let us style you with the wedding hair and makeup that they deserve!
